As everyone would be aware SE Queensland and Far Northern NSW are being directly impacted by Cyclone Alfred.
The Championship Committee has been closely monitoring weather and surf conditions associated with the cyclone and how they are affecting the State Championships competition area at Queenscliff, Manly.
The safety of competitors, water safety and powercraft personnel are always our primary concern. We are also aware the State Championships are the highlight event of the year for our Nippers, and many have been training hard all year for the Championships.
The Championship Committee is working through the various contingency alternatives available to us. As of this evening (Tuesday 4 March) we have been able to determine the following:
– Beach competition will proceed as scheduled
– For Thursday 6th March, Water competitions will take place at Shelly beach (Manly) in a condensed and altered format
– For Friday 7th March it is envisioned water competition will again be conducted in a condensed format at Shelly Beach with the potential for some events at Manly, dependent upon conditions
– The Competition Committee will continue to review conditions and make a determination as to the structure of the program leading into Saturday and Sunday
Conditions and forecasts continue to change, and we will continue to monitor and make the required amendments to the program as we know with more certainty the conditions which will present on each day.
We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to ensure competitors can participate in as many events as possible, whilst ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained.
A more detailed amended program will be issues on Wednesday 5 March.
