For over 10 years, we’ve operated our online shop through eBay. However, recent experiences highlighted significant challenges and prompted us to re-evaluate our long-term strategy.

The Issues:

• Persistent Technical Problems: We encountered repeated issues with account verification, including incorrect communication channels (a Skype number being used for verification despite its obsolescence) and difficulties accessing support.
• Lack of Responsive Support: Our attempts to resolve these problems were often frustrating, with a representative admitting to using an outdated contact method.
• Uncompetitive Commission Rates: Recent advertising promoting 0% fees for new sellers revealed a significant discrepancy compared to eBay’s standard commission rates – a factor that ultimately influenced our decision.
• Account Lockout After Verification: Following the completion of a lengthy verification process, including password submission, our account was inexplicably locked with the message: “Your account may have been accessed by a third party. In an effort to protect your account, we have put a temporary lock on bidding, selling and the ability to send messages to other eBay members until we can safely restore your account to you. Please click here to speak with an Account Security Representative.” – An unbelievable situation!
• VPN Requirement for Secure Navigation: Crucially, our use of a VPN was implemented as a security measure when navigating the internet and accessing sensitive data. This protocol could not be enforced by eBay to access their platform, highlighting a fundamental incompatibility.

Our Decision & Future Plans:

Recognizing these challenges, we’ve made the strategic decision to transition to our own dedicated e-commerce platform. We believe this move will provide us with greater control over our operations and allow us to offer a more streamlined and competitive experience for our customers.
